Cave Hibernation

It's been awhile since the last post. I guess you could say I've been in hibernation (thanks @jhabs7). But what hasn't been in hibernation, is the work put in by the team and the coaching staff. There are some definite differences between Division II and Division III baseball, and while subtle, they are there nonetheless.

Since the last post, a lot has happened. The season has not only begun, but we are ensconced in conference play. The season is nearly to the halfway point and we are sitting two games under the .500 mark at 10-12 (3-7 GLIAC) with a huge four-game series starting today against Tiffin University. As in most seasons, there have been some games we lost which could have been wins, and conversely, we've snagged a few wins from the jaws of defeat, so the record is a pretty accurate representation of the way we've this point.

What the record does not show is the capability of this team when we are running on all cylinders. I think we got a glimpse of that on Thursday at Ashland. But as I continue to make the transition from DIII to DII, the program itself continues to make a similar transition into DII conference play. There is still plenty of baseball left to be played, and the fun part of this game will be to watch the players go through the ups and downs of conference play and figure out what adjustments need to be made on a daily basis, which will enable them, and us, to be successful.

While the posts may be fewer and farther between, the twitter updates remain constant. Be sure to check out for updates all season long. Also check out Lake Erie's official athletic website at and for recaps, box scores, and live stats. RAGE ON!
