It has been over a week since the last post which gives the phrase "checking in" a second meaning. In the past eleven days, this is the fifth different hotel the Storm baseball team has occupied so hearing the question, "Checking in?" is nothing new. We have been road warriors for the first three-plus weeks of the season, and while that is not a new concept to northern baseball teams, there has been little opportunity to develop an in-season routine, which is vital in the sport of baseball.
After returning from the spring trip, it is safe to say the wins and losses did not pan out to what we expected. But what was planned was the fact we would be playing the toughest competition possible. But the one thing the losses did provide was a learning experience for each of us as individuals, and a collective unit. But with virtually 20% of the season gone, and when seemingly everything that could possibly go wrong on the field is, I am reminded by a quote from Henry Ford, "When everything seems to be going against you, remember the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it."
So this trip is now providing an opportunity for something else. It's an opportunity for everyone on this team to reassure themselves the work put in from the end of last season to opening day will ultimately produce results, but it should also reassure that success is found in the process and we can get things moving in the right direction, as long as we're moving together.
Today's non-conference double-header with the University of Charleston will begin at 12:00pm EST. Stay tuned to The Coach's Cave Twitter feed @thecoachscave for updates on each and every game this season. RAGE ON!
