A Broken Record, Record, Record, Record...

After the Storm finished off Ashland in a 9-0 win behind Russ Hogue's first career win and shutout, Lake Erie finds itself in a familiar position...setting a school record for wins. When the Storm recorded its 22nd win of the season, it marked the fourth time in the last five years they have done so. With ten games still on the regular season schedule, this year's club has the opportunity to make repeating this task very difficult for future teams. They currently sit two games in back of first place.

The Storm welcomes Saginaw Valley State University to town for a pivotal four-game series for all parties involved. Every series is magnified at the end of the season and this one is no different. The Cardinals took 3-of-4 last year in Saginaw, with the Storm's lone win coming in extra innings. Expect a series full of close games when Adam Beach, Brian Kilway, and Logan Nordquist take the mound in the first three games. The trio paced the staff's outstanding performance last weekend at Northwood by posting a 0.67 ERA in 27.0 innings pitched, which paced a 3-1 weekend.

The offense has a little momentum after the 9-0 win over a recent GLIAC Pitcher of the Week. It doesn't take much offense to spark this team either. The Storm is 17-8 when scoring four or more runs in a game. Four must be a magic number because they are 16-6 when allowing four or less runs a game. This record number of course, is helped by the six shutouts recorded by the pitching staff this year. From 2004-2011, there were only a total of seven shutouts. Pitching coach Mark Sankovich (sorry, no Twitter) surely has the staff going in the right direction.

The series with Saginaw begins with double-headers on Saturday (1:00 pm) and Sunday (12 noon) at Kiwanis Rec Park (#KZone). The homestand wraps on Wednesday (5/2, 2:00 pm) when the Storm pays tribute to the 11 seniors on the team between games against Ohio Domincan on Senior Day.
