Final Home Series Starts Today

This is your last chance to watch weekend college baseball in Lake County for the 2012 season! Lake Erie begins its final weekend home series today with a double-header at 1:00 pm at Kiwanis Rec Park (#KZone) against Saginaw Valley State University. The Storm and Cardinals are currently seperated by only two games in the GLIAC standings, in 2nd and 4th place, respectively. The Storm has been at or near the top of the standings since the opening weekend and currently sit two games in back of first place. The series concludes with a double-header tomorrow at noon.

Here are some game notes from A Broken Record, Record, Record, Record...
The Storm welcomes Saginaw Valley State University to town for a pivotal four-game series for all parties involved. Every series is magnified at the end of the season and this one is no different. The Cardinals took 3-of-4 last year in Saginaw, with the Storm's lone win coming in extra innings. Expect a series full of close games when Adam Beach, Brian Kilway, and Logan Nordquist take the mound in the first three games. The trio paced the staff's outstanding performance last weekend at Northwood by posting a 0.67 ERA in 27.0 innings pitched, which paced a 3-1 weekend.

The offense has a little momentum after the 9-0 win over a recent GLIAC Pitcher of the Week. It doesn't take much offense to spark this team either. The Storm is 17-8 when scoring four or more runs in a game. Four must be a magic number because they are 16-6 when allowing four or less runs a game. This record number of course, is helped by the six shutouts recorded by the pitching staff this year. From 2004-2011, there were only a total of seven shutouts. Pitching coach Mark Sankovich (sorry, no Twitter) surely has the staff going in the right direction.
