Wed 9/18: Black 2, Red 2. Lineups
Offense: Offense has been hard to come by over the last three intersquad games but the bats showed signs of life today with more runs scored than the previous two games combined. The most promising thing about the runs is that 3 of the 4 runs came with 2-outs. But overall the offense has been suffering from propeller lag after three days off due to the Best of the Midwest junior college event at Gil Hodges Field over the weekend. The test for the offense will be continuing to get back in stride during the intersquad games Friday and Saturday, carrying into next week.
Defense: Pitching and defense wins championships. While it's way too early to talk about the c-word, both have been pretty good lately. The high caliber of play is stemming from the leadership and communication on the field and will be the driving force to the success of the defense. The fielders will still have to make plays, which they have, including 4 double plays yesterday and a well executed relay starting with Matt Lapinski in right to first baseman Angelo Burrage to Marty Napleton at the plate. But all of those plays were trumped by Chris Hauser and his over-the-shoulder diving catch in foul ground, which looked something like this...only a little better.
Overall: The past two days have been an attempt to flush the bad taste that was Monday's practice. Bad practices will happen from time to time, there's no escaping them, but accepting them is a different story. But the last two days have shown a bounce-back attempt and the next two practices will help tell the story for the remainder of the fall.
Quote of the Day: "The best thing about yesterday is that it's over." Head Coach Rick O'Dette on Monday's practice.
Up Next: Puma Baseball will take Thursday off before back-to-back intersquads to close out the week. All games will be at Gil Hodges Field. Stay tuned to Twitter for updates on game times.
